One Woman's Story of Zumba Success!!!
I never considered myself “fat”. However, I always knew I should lose “some” weight, tone up “a little”. You know the feeling - you wish you were thinner, but never really seem motivated enough to “do” anything about it.
When Zumba Fitness came into my little corner of the world, I decided to give it a try. After all, I LOVE to dance & I had both of my children getting married in the near future & those “lovely” family photos as an incentive. In January 2010, I started going to classes every Saturday morning. It was fun, and by my son’s wedding in April, I was down a few pounds & started feeling good about myself. In May 2010, I was dragged “kicking & screaming” to another Zumba instructor, that I was GUARANTEED to like better. What an understatement!!!!! One of Marcia’s classes, and I was hooked. Once a week became three times a week, 3 times a week became 5. Needless to say, I was addicted! There was no thought about losing weight or having to exercise, it was about having fun and feeling exhilarated. I NEVER went to class and wished I hadn’t. It was a great way to release the stress of the day. I, honestly, never “dieted”. I never denied myself something I wanted to eat. I did, however, become aware of what I ate in terms of “fuel” for my body. My hunger level dropped, I think because I was eating better foods and was just more satisfied. By my daughter’s wedding in November 2010, I was over THIRTY pounds lighter and had gone from a size 12 to a size 6!
With the news of Marcia leaving us, I decided to get my Zumba certification. Nothing has changed on how I feel about Zumba. I do it because it’s fun. Staying in shape and the weight loss are just wonderful bonuses!
One Man's Story of Zumba Success!!!
In October 2011, I started a journey to improve my overall health. Having a significant medical history consisting of aortic valve replacement, type 2 diabetes, high triglyceride/cholesterol levels and hypertension. I have taken multiple medications to control these conditions since 1993. My wife and I started Zumba with Marcia as complete newbie’s! Not only were we not musical we were out of shape and overweight. Half way through the first class we were so exhausted that picking up our feet was difficult. Fortunate for us, we had Marcia’s undivided attention and unbelievable encouragement and patience. We felt in very good hands as she constantly instructed us on proper body mechanics to prevent injuries. As of today I have lost 26 lbs. My blood pressure and lab results are normal. I am no longer taking medication for high cholesterol/triglyceride levels and my diabetes medication has been cut in half. All achieved with a few lifestyle changes including weight loss management and Zumba three times per week. I never realized how much fun sweating could be. This is great cardio workout for both men and women! Marcia’s class is simply the BEST!
P.S My wife has lost 20 lbs.
